Welcome back!
Welcome to the Elder Care Cafe and its inaugural post. The Elder Care Cafe is about all things elder care, caregivers, and aging seniors. As we baby boomers move into our sixties, many of us are now caring for our parents who are in their 70s, 80s, and beyond. We know and understand the challenges caring for our loved one(s) means to us and other family members.
Although adult children have help take care of their elderly parents throughout the generations, the increasing life span has brought with it new challenges. Nowadays, far more baby boomers are caring for elderly parents. Centuries ago when the lifespan topped the late 40s or early 50s, caring for family members in their eighties and nineties was inconceivable. Now, it is more common than ever before.
Advancing Life Span
With advances in medicine, numerous studies being conducted, and people living healthier lives, it is difficult to predict just how high the lifespan will go in the future. There is an increasing number living over the century mark, and some are even living beyond 120 years old.
My hope is that this site will become a place where people feel comfortable about sharing their concerns, successes, and failures. I know I have many of each, and I am sure others do to as they care for their loved ones. Although we will provide as much information as we can regarding care giving, it would be nice to be able to hear from other caregivers as well.
