Welcome back!
In the world of Alzheimer’s studies, it seems new information is coming out almost daily. The increasing number of research studies continue to provide the health care industry with important updates as our growing senior population struggles with this dreaded disease.
Almost every family has been hit with the devastating news that a loved one has dementia or Alzheimer’s. The statistics are heartbreaking as families struggle with the reality of caring for their loved one. The stress placed on the family members causes even more mental, physical, and medical problems.
As America ages, the amount of stress and the struggles of many families will only increase. It appears that Alzheimer’s and dementia will not go away, but only continue to plague our families, friends, and the multitude of health care workers involved in the treatment and care of Alzheimer patients.
Caregivers throughout the country are dealing with their own levels of stress and poor health as a result of the long hours they put in caring for someone with the disease. Many lives are changed forever because someone they know has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and families must decide who is going to care for their loved one, where will they live, and how are they going to handle the financial burden. Many decisions need to be made.
The most recent news announces “a new test that can accurately detect Alzheimer’s disease in its earliest stages, before dementia symptoms surface and widespread damage occurs” according to an article on Yahoo! News.
The disease can tear families apart very quickly if everyone is not on the same page. Knowing that studies are continuing and positive progress is being made to accurately detect Alzheimer’s is good news to thousands across the country.
It is hoped that this information will not only provide an accurate diagnosis for those in the earliest stages of Alzheimer’s, but will allow doctors the opportunity to give drugs that may slow the progression of the disease. The earlier Alzheimer’s is detected, the better opportunity to attack the progression while there is more brain function to preserve.
According to researchers, this test can also rule out the existence of the disease. This is exciting news and will ease the minds of millions who fear they may have developed Alzheimer’s.
