Welcome back!
Caring for a diabetic, as with many diseases, is a team effort. To repeat a quote often used in recent years; it takes a village.
There are a number of steps caregivers can take to insure their loved one remains as healthy as possible under their current condition.
The first step is to rally the team. Keep a chart of the name, address, and phone number for each team member and place it in a prominent location, such as a bulletin board. Include such team members as:
- physicians’ office, including name of prominent nurses
- diabetes nurse educator
- dietitian educator
- pharmacist
- lab for routine blood draws, if not done at the doctor’s office
- eye care professional
- dentist office
- podiatrist office
- counselor, if needed
And remember that you, as the caregiver, are a very important part of the team.
I will continue this series regarding a checklist for good diabetic care over the next several days.
Is there anyone you would add to this list?
