Senior citizens must read the details when they renew their Medicare Part D drug plan this year according to SeniorJournal.com. Sources indicate the cost for 2009 may be substantially higher than 2008. Before automatically renewing, be sure to check out the premium, co-pays and deductibles, and prepare for sticker shock.
The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $36 million in new grant programs sent to 28 states is intended for people not eligible for Medicaid, but are at high risk of nursing home placement. The program offers seniors and veterans more control over their long-term care.
According to a study in the October 8 issue of Journal of American Medical Association, terminally ill patients who have end-of-life discussions with their physicians have a better quality of life as they near death compared to those who do not have such discussions. It was noted the patients receive less aggressive medical care their final week of life and were less likely to experience emotional distress.
